Oil ShockWave™ College Curriculum
Oil ShockWave™ College Curriculum is designed to bring the Oil ShockWave™ experience to college and university audiences. It provides students with an opportunity to step into the roles of senior government officials and, in those roles, think through simulated emergency situations—in this case involving oil supply disruptions—and try to find solutions even as the crises continue to develop and unfold.
Instructor Manual
This guide book contains a basic overview of Oil ShockWave™ College Curriculum and its purpose. It will give you all of the information you need to successfully run a live Oil ShockWave™ simulation in your classroom, bringing the dynamism and realism of an emergency National Security Council meeting directly to your students.
Scenarios DVD
The Scenarios DVD contains three separate Oil ShockWave™ scenarios for you to choose from. The scenarios are conveyed to the student participants via newscasts and briefings from a National Security Council staff member. The briefings are short, but convey key information (including data and maps) and suggested discussion points for the presidential advisors.
Live Event DVD
The Live Event DVD contains a professionally-filmed taping of Oil ShockWave™ from November 1, 2007. After conducting an Oil ShockWave™ simulation in your classroom, you and your students can compare your decision-making capabilities with those of former U.S. Treasury Secretary Robert E. Rubin, former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, former Commander of U.S. centcom General John P. Abizaid (Ret.), Pulitzer Prize winning author Dan Yergin, and others.
Oil Fact Sheet
The Oil Fact Sheet provides students with basic, essential information on oil markets that will help students put Oil ShockWave™'s geopolitical events in their proper context.
Emergency Policy Briefing
The Emergency Policy Briefing will provide students with an opportunity to think through the short-term options for responding to an oil shock and will help them consider the political, economic and logistical challenges associated with many such measures.
Position Perspectives
The Position Perspectives are designed to give students an idea of how to think about the crises they are facing from the perspective of the different individual Cabinet positions.
Country Profiles
The Country Profiles contain useful information about the economy and political systems of individual countries that play key roles in the various Oil ShockWave™ scenarios.
Cabinet Name Cards
Name cards for 10 Cabinet positions.
Simulation Insert Cards
These 60 insert cards will add an important element of realism to the simulation by allow you to deliver additional information and plot twists to students during their deliberations.
The World Oil Production Map
The World Oil Production Map details important facts and figures related to global oil production. Instability in major oil-producing countries, the threat of terrorism, and an uncertain investment climate can all cause volatility in oil prices and lead to global economic damage.
